A boost to research: we help the VIMM by joining Adotta un Ricercatore (Adopt a Researcher)

With our donation we can help further the work of the Advanced Biomedical Research Foundation of Padua, a non-profit organisation which has been studying forms of cancer forms that affect about 150 thousand people in Europe every year.

To help further research and turn our desire to promote greater protection of health into action, we have joined – and ours is the first financial institution to do so – the Adotta un Ricercatore initiative launched by the Advanced Biomedical Research Foundation of Padua.

With our funding, we support the work carried out by researchers at the VIMM Lymphoma and Myeloma Pathology Laboratory, who study cancers, such as multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas, which affect approximately 150,000 people in Europe each year.

Banca Ifis’s participation in our ‘Adopt a Researcher’ campaign will allow us to further pursue our research on myelomas and lymphomas, increasingly widespread diseases.

VIMM and ongoing research

Led by Professor Francesco Piazza, the group of researchers investigates how cancer can be combated by targeting a specific group of cellular enzymes.

Inspired by the work of the VIMM team, some clinical trials in the therapeutic effects of drugs that exploit these mechanisms are being carried out in the United States, involving patients with multiple myeloma.

The VIMM group also carries out clinical and assistance activities for patients suffering from lymphomas and myeloma at the Haematology department of the University Hospital of Padua, offering experimental clinical protocols for these pathologies at national and international level.
